Our Common Methodology
Adaptation cannot be decreed : it is cultivated over time.
The 3 levers of Pericology
Our approach is based on three concrete levers that we adapt to each organization. These levers are inspired by biological mechanisms documented by scientific research.
Detection of weak signals
We help your organization develop its ability to spot early warning signs of change before they become visible to everyone. In practical terms, this involves identifying relevant information sources within your ecosystem and implementing simple collaborative monitoring tools. This approach is inspired by the way peripheral vision works in the animal kingdom, as studied in neuroscience.
Autonomous coordination
We are working to implement coordination methods that allow your teams to act quickly without waiting for instructions from management. This involves defining clear rules for collaboration and action protocols that activate automatically depending on the situation. This approach is based on the principle of stigmergy observed in social insects, as documented by the work of naturalist Pierre-Paul Grassé.
Active learning
We support you in implementing mechanisms that systematically transform experiences, including crises, into concrete learnings. This involves establishing simple post-event analysis rituals and capitalizing on lessons learned. This process is inspired by the resilience mechanisms observed in natural ecosystems, as studied by ecologist C.S. Holling.
The 4 phases of our method
Our intervention follows a logical progression in four phases, adapted to the pace and specificities of each organization.
Phase 1 : Diagnosis of current capabilities
We begin by assessing your current ability to anticipate risks and detect early warning signs. This assessment covers your existing processes, information channels, and decision-making methods. This phase typically lasts two to three weeks.
Phase 2 : Adaptation of protocols
We work with your teams to co-create protocols tailored to your specific context. These protocols define simple action rules and concrete alert thresholds. This phase typically requires three to four weeks of collaborative work.
Phase 3 : Supported Implementation
We help you gradually integrate the new systems into your daily operations. The focus is on training key personnel and fine-tuning the tools in real-world conditions. This phase typically lasts four to six weeks.
Phase 4 : Gradual empowerment
We ensure that your organization becomes self-sufficient in using and adapting the protocols. We implement monitoring indicators and regular review rituals. This final phase lasts two to three months.
This methodology is the result of adapting validated biological principles to the realities of organizations. It does not claim to solve all problems, but it provides a concrete response to the challenge of anticipation in complex environments.
Faced with complexity, many invent new theories. We do the opposite : we draw on the oldest and most proven knowledge there is, the principles of life.
The 3 levers of Pericology
Weak signals are ignored because they are not considered legitimate.
Our approach is based on three concrete levers that improve organizations' ability to anticipate. Each lever corresponds to a biological mechanism documented by scientific research, which we adapt to the organizational context.
Detection of weak signals
This tool helps your organization identify early warning signs of change. Specifically, we work with you to identify relevant information sources within your environment and implement collaborative monitoring systems. This approach is based on research into peripheral vision and its role in early hazard detection. The work of Day and Schoemaker on peripheral vision in management demonstrates its practical application.
Autonomous coordination
We develop your teams' ability to coordinate their actions without constant recourse to hierarchy. This translates into the definition of clear rules for collaboration and action protocols that are activated according to the situations encountered. This approach is inspired by the concept of stigmergy observed in social insects and documented by the naturalist Pierre-Paul Grassé in his studies on animal coordination.
Active learning
This approach allows your organization to systematically transform experiences, including challenges, into concrete learnings. We work with you to implement simple processes for post-event analysis and lessons learned. This approach is based on research concerning the resilience of ecological systems, particularly the work of ecologist C.S. Holling on the adaptive capacity of ecosystems.
Each lever is deployed gradually and in a way that is tailored to the specific needs of your organization. We ensure that its implementation respects the pace and constraints of your work environment.
The 4 phases of our method
Pericology does not offer a ready-made solution.
Our method unfolds in four successive phases, designed to be applied together, in order, and repeated each time a disturbance occurs.
Phase 1 : Assessment of your current situation
We begin by gaining a thorough understanding of your organization and its current capacity to anticipate risks. This assessment is based on interviews with relevant individuals and an analysis of your existing processes. The goal is to establish a realistic diagnosis of your strengths and weaknesses in detecting early warning signs and responding to unforeseen events. This phase typically takes two to three weeks.
Phase 2 : Adapting the protocols to your context
We work collaboratively with your teams to develop protocols tailored to your specific challenges. These protocols define clear action rules and concrete alert thresholds. This work is carried out through practical workshops where we test and refine the proposals with the people who will use them daily. This phase typically lasts three to four weeks.
Phase 3 : Supported Implementation
We help you gradually implement the new systems within your organization. The focus is on training teams and adapting the tools to real-world conditions. We ensure that everyone understands their role and can use the new protocols effectively. This phase typically lasts four to six weeks.
Phase 4 : Monitoring and empowerment
We implement monitoring indicators and regular evaluation sessions to measure progress and identify necessary adjustments. The goal is for your organization to become self-sufficient in using and adapting the protocols. This final phase lasts two to three months, with support gradually decreasing.
Each phase is documented in a detailed report with concrete recommendations. The exact duration of the intervention depends on the size of your organization and the complexity of the challenges identified. We establish a precise timeline at the start of the mission and adjust it as needed along the way.
